Bear hunt/10th Anniversary

We did something a little different this year and went Bear hunting. It was our 10 year Anniversary! We drove up by McCall, ID to a hunting ranch. We had about a 10 hour drive. We stayed in a small cabin. No electricity or heat. But at least we had flushing toilets. It was quite the adventurous week. We rode horses each day to get to our hunting spot. Our guide would make a bait with lots of grease, cheese whiz and licorice and make a fire to bring in the bears.
We were up in a tree in a stand. The first day we sat there all day, not moving, talking or doing anything and we didn't see a single thing. I thought i was going to die of boredom!

The second day we sat again for many hours. I fell asleep and woke up to Josh hitting me on the shoulder. A bear was at our bait. My heart was racing. It was scary, but amazing to see a bear so close . I couldn't believe that we never heard it. They are so quiet.  I got my camera our to start filming and Josh slowly got his bow ready to get a shot. Even the slighted movements could ruin our chance of getting the bear. It was almost dark when Josh shot the bear. We heard him go down. But you want to wait awhile to make sure it's really dead before you go after it. We got down from our stand and went to our horses. It was dark and I was scared! And when we got to the horses our guide informed us that my horse had fallen under a bridge and he was stuck and couldn't get him out. And then he told us how the horse was night blind. We were like, "What the heck. Why would you put me on a night blind horse." There were a few really steep ridges we rode past on the horses. Seriously so scary!  We went back to camp and a bunch of people rode back up to try and get the horse out and find the bear. It was pouring rain. I stayed back in the cabin. They couldn't find the bear, but they got the horse out! And the next day in the light we were able to find the bear. Josh was super excited!!

Josh shot a second bear. He was a small cinnamon colored bear. We were in a ground blind for this one and we walked right past us. I was so nervous! But this trip did help ease my fear of bears a bit. I realized they are super skiddish and it's so hard to ever see them!
We had a fun trip and enjoyed some cute small town restaurants and stayed at a fun hotel in Mccall one night. The food in bear camp was awful!
